This amazing experince takes place at the Arenal Observatory Lodge and Lake Arenal surrounding the forest area located 20 - 30 minutes away from La Fortuna Town. This mid-elevation neotropical region has some of the most impressive Birding habitats in the Country. This attraction is located by the western foothill of our active summit. Visitors will be able to appreciate a vast variety of avian species, such as: Toucans, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, oropendolas, manakins, flycatchers, herons, egrets, kingfishers, birds of prey, and many more. Mammals such as Howler or Capuchin monkeys, sloths, and coatis. All of them share this nature-rich environment.

Created during the 1980s decade to supply electricity throughout the country. Arenal lake became an essential wetland for migratory avian wildlife species. This ecological condition allowed this body of water to achieve a Ramsar Site category, which is embraced to a worldwide regulation with specific legislation accorded in Ramsar, Iran in 1971.
